In line with the efforts of the Governor of Gilan to develop foreign tourism and upgrade Rasht Airport, a new flight route from Rasht to Astrakhan was launched.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Governor of Gilan, with the continuous efforts and efforts of Hadi Haghshenas, the Governor of Gilan, the first direct flight from Rasht’s Sardar Jangal International Airport to Astrakhan, Russia, was carried out this morning (Sunday).

This flight was established in line with the development of economic, tourism and cultural exchanges between Gilan and the southern regions of Russia and is considered an effective step in strengthening the province’s international relations.

On the sidelines of this ceremony and in the presence of reporters, Hadi Haghshenas, the Governor of Gilan, referred to the first flight from Rasht to Astrakhan, Russia, and stated: One of the distinctive features of Gilan province is its diverse capacities in the agricultural, industrial and especially tourism sectors, and these features have made this province an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors and tourists.

He stated that this year, several negotiations have been held with neighboring countries to establish direct flights from Rasht, adding: “The purpose of these consultations is to provide a basis for both Iranian tourists to benefit from the benefits of Sardar Jangal Airport and foreign tourists to visit the unique attractions of Gilan.” According to the Gilan Governor, this year, most foreign flights from Rasht have been made to Iraq, and a new flight to Astrakhan has also been established as a charter. We hope to see direct flights from Rasht to some Persian Gulf countries in the coming months.

Referring to the importance of tourism in creating sustainable employment, Haghshenas stated: “Almost one out of every ten jobs in the world is in the tourism sector, and given the unique climate and four-season nature of Gilan, we must use this God-given opportunity to attract tourists and boost the province’s economy.” He also pointed out the capacity of foreign flights to develop exports and said: “In addition to passenger transportation, these routes can be used to export agricultural products such as kiwi and citrus fruits. There have been previous experiences in this field, and if airlines welcome them, it is possible to continue cargo flights.”

The governor of Gilan considered one of the government’s goals in this province to be the development of foreign flights, and stated: “Developing foreign flights from Rasht Airport can play an effective role in introducing Gilan’s economic and tourism capacities to international markets and pave the way for strengthening economic and cultural relations with regional countries.”

This flight is operated at 7:00 AM every Sunday from Rasht to Astrakhan by Raimon Airlines.

After establishing international flights to Najaf and Baghdad, this flight is the third foreign passenger flight route from Rasht’s Sardar Jangal Airport to Astrakhan in Russia.

It is worth noting that in the past year, along with the development of infrastructure and a 40% increase in Rasht Airport’s capacity with the expansion of domestic and international flights, this airport has been promoted from 17th to 8th place in the country. It is expected that with the continuation of this trend and the launch of a new airline, Sardar Jangal Airport will be among the top 5 airports in the country.
